Engineers are people who work with technology. All of the technology that you use today was created by engineers. Now, scientists and engineers are looking toward the future to create new technologies that will benefit society. My dream job is to be an engineer because I like to solve problems and build things. I want to help disadvantaged people live their lives the way they want to do, and I want to help the world by making new, cleaner forms of energy.
Engineers are meant to build things and solve problems. I have enjoyed putting things together and thinking of solutions since I was very young. My dad bought robotic kits that I could assemble, build, and understand how the object works. Using this kit, I have built a boat, a car, a wind turbine, and a plane. Putting these pieces together was very fun. After I finished each part, I felt proud of myself because I built something new. However, things don’t always works as they are planned. Sometimes engineers have problems in their inventions, and they have to tweak the machines to make them work. For example, I once had a problem with a remote control car. It needed three of the same type of battery, but I only had 2 of them. I got a paper clip and put it on the contacts where the third battery would go. The car ran perfectly! The skills I demonstrated in these examples were building and problem solving. Engineers need to do these things everyday. I would be a great engineer because I have the right skills and the right attitude.
One type of engineering that I am very interested in is prosthetics. A prosthetic is an artificial limb on the body that replaces a lost limb. One reason that I am interested in prosthetics is that I want people who are disabled to live their lives like other people. If someone does not have a leg they can not walk. A prosthetic leg can benefit that person by helping them walk again. This technology would also help the elderly with things they can not do such as cleaning the house or going to the store. If someone is very weak, I can help make them stronger using a prosthetic. Helping people would make me very happy because I will be doing something good. This is why I want to be an engineer: problem solving, building, and most importantly helping people makes me happy.
I don’t only want to help the disabled and elderly people; I want to help the whole world. As an engineer, I can create new energy that can prevent global warming and produce enough energy to power up cities. One of the first examples of electrical engineering was from Michael Faraday. He studied force and energy and then created electromagnetic technology, which is one way to produce electricity. Back then, Faraday used watermills to power his motors. Today, we can use solar power, wind turbines, and nuclear power plants to make electricity. I can research how to create more energy from these existing technologies. For example, solar panels are very expensive. If I can make them cheaper, then everyone can buy them. Another way to improve existing solar panel technology is to get a greater output from indirect sunlight. This would allow us to produce more electricity when it’s cloudy or when there isn’t a lot of sunlight. I want to work on making these energy sources more efficient so we will not need fossil fuels. I want to be an engineer so I can help the world.
In conclusion, my dream job is to be an engineer because I like to create things and find solutions. I want to help disabled people live their lives the way they want to. I also would like to help the world by making new, cleaner forms of energy. I like to problem solve to be satisfied. I also like to build new things because I feel happy that I can build them. I can help the elderly and disadvantaged people through prosthetics. Lastly, I can help the world by making alternative energy sources safer and more efficient. If I become an engineer, then I could do all this for a better world.
