Why I Watch the Superbowl

First of all, let me say that I am NOT an American Football fan. In fact, the only football game I watch is the Superbowl, once a year. Though I might not be interested in football, there are many other reasons I watch the game, and reasons you should too.

1.) You can get together with friends/family.

Need a reason to get together? The Superbowl is a great one. It’s a huge friend/family get together to watch the biggest game in America. It’s the one time where everyone has permission to yell at the television when the your team scores a touchdown. Plus, you can bet with you siblings and friends. (in my case, with toys and food). If the ending of the game is in your favor, you’ll be walking away with ice cream, a trip to Subway, a new bottle of nail polish, a set of earrings, and probably $10 in cash as well.

2.) An excuse to stuff your face.
With pizza, ice cream, chips, and a 7-layer dip there’s no denying that Superbowl is a great excuse to stuff your face with junk food galore. Enjoy, because it’s the one night your mom won’t moderate your eating.

3.) New advertisements are out.
While most days we moan and groan whenever an advertisement comes on during the climax of our show, the Superbowl is known for it’s advertisements. Superbowl marks the release of new advertisements, and on news channels the next day there are usually competitions for which was the best ad. Companies try to do their best to win these competitions, so you will definitely see new ads that are usually funny or just a great advertisement.

4.) Root for your favorite team.
Everyone is on a team during the Superbowl. This makes great way for bets, and well, screaming your face off in front of the television with your friends. It also makes a great conversation topic the Monday after the Superbowl. Whether you go for the team closest to your state or do a bunch of research and gather statistical data about which team has the highest percentage of winning, you have to have a team.

5.) Halftime show.
Some people strictly watch for the half time show. The Superbowl halftime show is a glamorous event complete with fireworks and vibrant flying colors. The half time show is really well done. This year’s will be performed by Coldplay.

6.) Makes you feel more . . . American.

Yes, I know that sounds extremely super lame and cheesy, but it’s true. Everyone in the country is watching the big game on the first Sunday of February, and being American I feel obliged to. Personally, it makes me feel patriotic. I know it sounds stupid, but that’s my view of it.

Hopefully you’ve found a reason to watch the game. It will be at 6:30 p.m., Sunday Feb. 7th on CBS. This year’s Superbowl is extremely important, being Superbowl 50! It will be played out by the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. Who do you think will win?
