Barker wagged his tail and barked his heart out. Today was the best day of his life. He had gotten adopted by what he known as a little girl named Maria. He had met Maria the other day as she watched with her eyes full with amazement how sweet and small the caramel little lab was. Now was the time he was going to get adopted . . . at last.

Barker gleefully accepted the collar Maria gave him, a bronze little token that had BARKER engraved into it. But Barker didn’t accept this gleefully but what he didn’t know was that Maria had a younger brother, maybe 3 years of age and was sucking on his lollipop complaining to his mom that he wanted to go home. Barker felt lucky that he was out of the boys reach and was safely gripped in Maria’s small hands.
When Barker the boy and Maria got home, Barker was delighted to have his own bowl filled with food, a ball that squeaked and Barker went out barking happily. Satisfied, Barker went to sleep.
The next morning he was rapidly shaken awake by the boy, to his disappointment, and not Maria. The boy picked up Barker and dropped him on his food bowl, that was half filled with food. After he ate his food madly, the little boy bought the squeaky ball outside. Not the ball! Barker thought. Barker chased after the boy. The boy threw the ball and Barker caught it. Wow! thought Barker. That seemed like fun. He had never done anything like it. The boy and Barker chased around laughing, barking, and playing happily. The annoying buy that was causing Barker harm, was know playing with Barker a fun game. Maria joined the fun after she got home from first grade.
Over the next few years, Barker and the boy became great friends.
