A hero. An inspiration. A common man. Throughout the seventy-eight years of his life
Mahatma Gandhi had brought India to independence, struggled to maintain peace between
Muslims and Hindu, and washed upon the Earth the wisdom that would continue to impact the
world even after his death. Living a simple life, Gandhi had no intentions of becoming a
worldwide icon in his earlier years. But his awareness of India’s situation and his will to make a
change for the better changed everything. He was but a common man, with genuine
philosophies. A life changing quote of his states, “You must be the change you wish to see in the
world.” Through words and nonviolent actions, he brought out the authentic goodness of each
human being.
Every person has probably noticed horrible events happening in the world and felt grief
for the people that had to go through such adversities. How many people though, would want to
make a change to make the world a better place, and then wholeheartedly commit to it? To
accomplish a feat, one must truly want it even if that means they have to endure the struggles
that come along with it. They must be aware of what is happening around them and take steps to
make the world everyone lives in, the peaceful world that can only be dreamt of. Why leave it to
the leaders when someone can become a person of influence themselves! Another quote of
Gandhi says, “Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.” No
matter how big or small the act of humanity is, it will undoubtedly make a difference.
Poverty, injustice, and war are all difficulties we face today. Now, if one opens the door
of their own intention toward a better world and acts upon it we will see more of peace,
brotherhood, and goodness of heart. If we the people of our world take action to make it a better
place, hand in hand, there will be tremendous progress in achieving a world of peace only seen
in our imaginations. This quotes strikes us with the realization of the possibilities that could be
accomplished with the strength of our will, which can drive our nonviolent actions into making
something beautiful that everyone can share.
