The Orphan Train

Sneha has shared her thoughts regarding the orphan train. Thanks Sneha, we appreciate your thoughtful write-ups!

Today in school we read about the orphan train and I can’t tell you how lucky I am to have parents who are still alive. We read that in the early 1900’s the population of orphans and parents who could not take care of their children had risen. To solve this problem a wise man had this idea to bring children to the west to get adopted. I couldn’t believe how brave the kids must be saying good bye to their parents or their home forever. They must have had so much anxiety for whether they were going to get adopted or not. Most kids got adopted by loving and caring couples but others adopted a child to do house or farming work. On the train the ride was bumpy and the matrons were very strict with the kids. Today orphans have a slightly better life then they used to back then but orphans still face many challenges. Just think of how much sorrow they must go through because of the loss of a parent or parents! This is why we should help orphans and think how lucky we are to have our parents alive.EmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmoji
