Dr. M. Tamim is a Professor of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering, BUET, Dhaka. He graduated from BUET in Mechanical Engineering and completed his Masters from IIT, Madras. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Canada in Petroleum Engineering. He has research interest in reservoir engineering, petroleum economics and energy planning; development and application of various numerical and analytical computer models, reservoir management problems. He also has experience in green house gas (GHG) mitigation, energy efficiency improvement and energy related environmental remedies. Dr. Tamim has supervised several M.Sc. Students and published a number of papers in national and international journals.
He worked at different capacities relating energy policy formulation, planning and regulation with all governments since 1995. He took a one year leave from his teaching job to manage the Power and Energy Ministry in 2008 during the caretaker government period. Dr. Tamim is member and the founding Chairperson of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Bangladesh Section and a life Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
Outside his professional interest, Professor Tamim is genuinely concerned about children education in Bangladesh – the lack of opportunity and also the quality of the existing education. He is a member of the Trustee board of a well reputed girls’ high school and college in Dhaka where he volunteers at least two hours every week. He also contributes to print media on education policy and system. Dr. Tamim is married and has two daughters.
